The University of Buckingham School of Psychology is a vibrant community that fosters a culture of collaborative, multidisciplinary research. You will join one of our three research hubs described below, which are all engaged in inter-institutional collaborations, including some with non-academic partners such as health-care providers and music conservatoires. Entry requirements: applicants would typically have at least a 2:1 in a BSc or BA (Hons) Psychology single honours or Psychology major degree and an MSc degree (or equivalent), although exceptional candidates without postgraduate qualification will be considered.
In the first instance, full-time PhD students must present their work at a formal assessment meeting one year after registration in order to confirm their PhD status. For suitable students, there may be teaching opportunities after confirmation. Candidates must typically be self-funded but we will support postgraduate candidates in their applications for doctoral scholarships to external funding bodies.
Selection process: wherever possible, you will be invited to the University to meet the Admissions Tutor for an informal interview and to have a tour of our campus. If you are an international applicant, it may not be possible for you to visit in person, so if the Admissions Tutor has any queries about your application you may be conducted by Skype, email or phone.

‘CREATE' (Centre for Research into Expertise Acquisition, Training and Excellence)
We explore the drivers of excellence (aptitudes, motivation, practice, resilience) in the performing arts, mind-based leisure activities, and medicine (with the University of Buckingham Medical School). Our research also explores creativity and insight, and how these contribute to originality and excellence. This may help us to make better life-choices, investing our time wisely in activities which work to our strengths.
Centre for Health and Relationship Research
We study the impact of the interpersonal world and support structures on health and well-being in clinical and non-clinical settings. With connections and active research work taking part at four local NHS hospitals, we can offer excellent opportunities for research studies with tangible impact.
Cyber- and Interpersonal Behaviour Research (CIBR)
Get in touch with us to explore human behaviour, emotions and experiences in relation to technology and the impact of technology on individuals both online and offline. In addition, we examine offline social processes, emotions, mental resilience and interpersonal relationships across the lifespan.
