About the Programme

We are inviting applications for one full-time PhD studentship in the area of Social Policy. This studentship will be a part of the Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA) in Social Policy.

About the studentship 

The student will be based at the University of Huddersfield and undertake a project within the School of Human and Health Sciences. The proposed project areas are as follows:

• Consequences of disclosure of historic child sexual abuse – Lead: Dr. Bernard Gallagher (b.gallagher@hud.ac.uk)

• Decision making processes in family building for cancer patients – Lead: Steve Lui (S.Lui@hud.ac.uk)

• Evidence-based policy making in work and health – Lead: Dr. Serena Bartys (S.Bartys@hud.ac.uk)

• Examining the experience of familial violence on young men (aged 10-17 years) in the UK – Lead: Dr. Graham Gibbs (g.r.gibbs@hud.ac.uk)

• Impact of assistive technologies on networked support in health care – Lead: Dr. Tim Gommersall (T.Gomersall@hud.ac.uk)

• Poverty, inequality and the interface with child protection practice – Lead: Prof. Brid Featherstone (b.m.featherstone@hud.ac.uk)

• Using design to prevent crime – Lead: Prof. Rachel Armitage (R.A.Armitage@hud.ac.uk)

Funding details
The studentship is available from 1 October 2017 for a period of 3 years, subject to satisfactory progress and includes a tax exempt stipend, which is currently £14,553 per annum.

Full-time tuition fees will be covered for up to three years (Home/EU rates only). Overseas applicants will be required to cover the annual difference between Home/EU and the overseas tuition fee rates (currently approximately £8,835 per annum). The studentship will also include up to £1500/year/student for travel and subsistence to enable interaction between the collaborating organisations.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must have a good honours degree (a First or 2.1 or equivalent) in a social science discipline or related area. An MSc/MA level qualification is desirable but not essential.

For international applicants a recognised English language qualification is required.

Supervisory team
The supervisory team will comprise of two academics with expertise in the relevant area.
