About the Programme

At Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) we're looking for outstanding candidates to take up a number of generous PhD scholarships.

We have a rich and vibrant postgraduate research community with a broad range of academic research interests. We are proud of our world-leading research, which stretches across and beyond the disciplines of our five Schools covering Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Art, Design, History of Art, and Music.

Applications are invited for research projects that take advantage of the leading research expertise across our Schools.

Available awards

     • ECA PhD Scholarships

Three ECA PhD Scholarships, for the sum of £16,000 per year for three years full-time study, open to new PhD students commencing study in September 2018.

Awards made to part-time students will be made pro-rata, therefore £8,000 per year over 6 years of prescribed study.

     • College Research Awards

 Two College Research Awards, for the sum of £16,000 per year for three years full-time study, open to new PhD students commencing study in September 2018.

Awards made to part-time students will be made pro-rata, therefore £8,000 per year over 6 years of prescribed study.

     • ECA PhD Interdisciplinary Scholarship

Applications are invited for research projects that take advantage of our interdisciplinary nature. We are offering one ECA PhD interdisciplinary scholarship, for the sum of £16,000 per year for three years full-time study, open to new PhD students commencing study in September 2018.

Awards made to part-time students will be made pro-rata, therefore £8,000 per year over 6 years of prescribed study.

     • Andrew Grant Postgraduate Scholarships

A wide range of scholarships are available to applicants to postgraduate programmes and PhD study in our 5 schools: School of Art, School of Design; ESALA (Architecture and Landscape Architecture); History of Art; and the Reid School of Music. Please visit our website for full details.

Please note: all awards are first used towards meeting the tuition fee costs for the successful applicant and for awards where there is any remaining balance this will be paid to the award holder as a stipend.

Eligibility

You must ensure that you have fully completed and submitted your PhD programme application for admission using the University's online system by no later than 25th January 2018.
