BRING YOUR RESEARCH TO LIFE
UEA Faculty of Science PhD studentships 2018-19

Ranked 10th in the UK for the quality of research outputs (Times Higher REF 2014 Analysis), and set in Norwich, one of the UK’s best-kept-secret cities, UEA is the perfect environment to explore your ideas through a PhD.

Five studentships are available within the Faculty of Science at University of East Anglia (UEA) to support PhD projects in mathematics, computing, chemistry, pharmacy, physics and engineering. The studentships will be awarded to academically outstanding candidates, to work on research projects developed in collaboration with one of our faculty members. Candidates should apply to the University by 26th November 2018, identifying the supervisor and including their project outline in their application. The supervisor will then be able to forward applications to the Faculty studentship competition.

The list of research themes in the Faculty will help applicants make contact with potential supervisors. These scholarships could also support research projects currently advertised as available to self-funded students. In disciplines covered by this competition, our research focuses on the following themes:

Chemistry, physics and pharmacy

Analytical and bio-analytical chemistry; bioorganic and bioinorganic chemistry; computational and theoretical chemistry; energy materials; nanosciences; synthetic organic, inorganic and materials chemistry; ultrafast laser spectroscopy; drug delivery and pharmaceutical materials; medicinal chemistry and medicines management.

The studentships are funded for 3 years and comprise home/EU fees, an annual stipend of £14,777 and £1,000 per annum to support research training. Overseas applicants may apply but they are required to fund the difference between home/EU and overseas tuition fees (which for 2018-19 are detailed on the University’s fees pages. (Please note tuition fees are subject to an annual increase).

Applicants with interests in biology, environmental sciences and social sciences are not eligible for this competition, but should apply via our Norwich Research Park, ARIES and SENSS doctoral partnerships. These distribute Faculty funding for these topics as well as research council funds.
