Staff personhood and its influence on care provided to people living with dementia in care settings

Person-centred care is often considered synonymous with high-quality dementia care. Whilst care staff are central to influence and implement person-centred care, this approach is often not extended to them. The literature around personhood typically focus on that of the person living with dementia, with the issue of the personhood of staff being largely neglected. More research is needed to inform practice, education and policies to ensure care staff receive the support they need.

A PhD could focus on any aspect of the above. It might, for example, focus on how staff personhood is supported in different care organisations, what factors may facilitate or hinder staff personhood or what strategies may enhance the experience of the care workforce. Alternatively, you may choose to study the association between staff personhood and capacity to deliver person-centred care.

You will study within our Dementia research cluster, which focuses on person-centred care, living well with dementia, and improving quality of care.
