Prof Sharon Ashbrook, Dr R Morris  Applications accepted all year round

About the Project

Applications are invited for PhD studies in the School of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews.

The two projects available involve synthesis and characterisation, primarily by solid-state NMR, of important porous solids in the zeolite and metal-organic framework families of materials. These solids are of great interest for a wide range of application, from catalysis and adsorption technologies, through the storage of gas for fuel (e.g., for hydrogen powered cars) or climate change (carbon capture) applications. They are also of great interest in medicine.

PhD students on the projects will learn how these materials are synthesised and how state-of-the-art characterisation techniques can be used to support commercialisation of new products, particularly in the area of medical device coatings and catalysts.Funding is for UK students only.
