About the Project

Prof. Andrew Stables focuses on the philosophy and theory of education, with a particular interest in semiotics as philosophy. This has three aspects: (1) semiotics/semiosis as philosophy (work on C.S.Peirce and/or Continental traditions, for instance); (2) human meaning making and the natural world (including the possibility of education for sustainable development), involving work in philosophy of mind, (environmental) ethics and epistemology as they relate to education; (3) the development of human consciousness and understanding (through semiotic understandings of childhood, for example).

Second supervisor is dependent on precise topic of application.

Prof. Stables will now consider applications for Entry 2013 from those applicants who are happy to compete for University and Graduate School funding or obtain external funding. Funding is difficult to obtain and highly competitive.
