About the Project
A PhD student position in the field of liver regeneration and hepatic innate immune responses is available. In patients undergoing hepatic surgery for primary or secondary liver tumors, efficient regeneration of the remaining tissue is required. In this project we study cellular responses to regenerative stress within the liver that are required to maintain the metabolic and immunological functions of the liver allowing patients to recover from surgery. The proposed studies focus on the regulation of hepatic innate immune cells (ILC) by extracellular ATP. In particular we explore associated P2 receptor signaling, regulation by extracellular NTPDases and its impact on immune effector functions.
The candidate will work with state-of-the art techniques in molecular & cell biology, cell culture, protein and molecular biology techniques and the use of transgenic models.
Salary: according to the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation

Requirements
Applicants must hold a European academic degree in natural sciences (MSc or equivalent) acceptable for matriculation as a Ph.D. student at a Swiss University. Students will have to be admitted to the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences, University of Bern.
