Project Description

Applications are welcome for a self-funded PhD studentship at the School of Chemistry of the University of East Anglia to work in the research group of Dr María Paz Muñoz. The project involves the design of new gold complexes bearing allenic ligands and the investigation of these complexes as anticancer drugs. The research will be focus in first instance towards the synthesis of allenic bipyridines and other derivatives and the complexation with gold. The biological properties and anticancer activities of the new complexes will be tested in a later stage of the project in collaboration with groups in the School of Biological Sciences.

Students must have at least a 2:1 in Chemistry or related discipline or a good Masters degree in Chemistry.

A bench fee is also payable on top of the tuition fee to cover specialist equipment or laboratory costs required for the research. The amount charged annually will vary considerably depending on the nature of the project and applicants should contact the primary supervisor for further information about the fee associated with the project.
