About the Project

Nematodes of hens can be important causes of lost production. Their control is by treatment with flubendazole or fenbendazole. By looking at faecal samples from commercial laying hens you will be able to establish how fast infection returns after treatment, the effectiveness of treatment, optimal control regimes and differences in infection rates with different maintenance conditions. You will develop in vitro tests for possible benzimidazole resistance and create both PCR tests for resistance and differentiation of Heterakis and Ascaridia eggs.
