Alzheimer’s Stem Cell Studies: Disease Mechanisms and Drug Discovery

MRC Industrial CASE Studentship - Doctoral programme for 4 Years

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative candidate for doctoral studies in ’Stem cell models of Alzheimer’s Disease’.

The research project will investigate disease mechanisms affecting neuronal vulnerability to Alzheimer’s Disease and develop screening assays for drug discovery. The successful candidate will employ molecular biology techniques, induced pluripotent stem cell culture, genome engineering and state of the art functional assays including optical tools and advanced microscopy.

The project will be supervised by Prof Zameel Cader at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Prof Richard Wade-Martins, at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and Dr Christop Patsch at Roche. The studies will be conducted at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, Oxford and the Stem Cell Group at Roche.

In the cover letter please clarify how your experience and skills would help you in conducting the research described above. Applicants must have an excellent undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Neuroscience). A minimum of a 2(i) or equivalent is required for graduate entry into Oxford. The minimum standards for English apply for applicants from non EU countries.
