Project Description

A PhD studentship is available immediately, funded for 3.5 years by the Mortimer and Theresa Sackler Foundation and based within the Chemokine Research Group in the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation in the University of Glasgow. There is considerable evidence that chemokines have key roles in the brain response to peripheral inflammation. The nature of the communication between peripheral inflammation and the role of chemokines is not clear.
This studentship will investigate the how chemokines operate in different neurobiological systems in the context of inflammatory diseases. There will be the opportunity to use cutting-edge molecular biology technologies, as well as developing behavioural measurement techniques.
There will be an opportunity to answer specific questions around the hitherto unexplored neurobiology affected by inflammation.
You will join the largest chemokine research group in the UK. There are state-of-the-art laboratory and research facilities, and the student would be joining a fully established research team. You will be supervised by Prof Jonathan Cavanagh and Prof Gerard Graham.
