About the Project

How Sticky are Selling, General and Administrative Costs?: A Comparison of China and the United States 销售成本、一般管理成本的滞留性有多大? 中美对比

Prior research suggests an asymmetric relationship between a firm’s selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) costs and a change of activities, with cost reductions generally found to be smaller than cost increases for an equivalent amount of activity change. The aim of this proposed study is to investigate the relationship between SG&A cost stickiness and labour laws, labour movement flexibility and labour law enforcement practices in China and to compare these findings to those from the USA.

Our objective is to shed further light on the causes and consequences of cost flexibility across countries, and to consider implications for the relative competitiveness of the Chinese manufacturing sector.
