About the Project

This PhD project will examine letters, reports and primary documents of state officials who had been involved in creating exclusive territorial spaces for indigenous peoples in the circumpolar North. The nation states of the circumpolar North is known for hosting “reserves” “colonies” “okruga” “samebyer” “comprehensive land claims” and other types of territorial enclaves for indigenous citizens. The process by which these enclaves were formed, and the personal histories of the people who negotiated them, has not been studied in a systematic way. The successful candidate would have a specific case study and the specific language skills necessary for the study.

Where will I study?
