About the Project

There is increasing evidence that early life events (such as those happening during gestation) have long-term health effects. For example, a number of studies carried out at the Liggins Institute have shown adverse health effects in childhood in association with being born preterm (99% of all births in the country) and the military conscription database.

In this project, we aim to expand our existing and successful collaboration with researchers from Uppsala University in Sweden to access these rich databases. Our objective is to address some of the questions on the long-term health effects of early life events that cannot be examined in the New Zealand context.
