About the Project

There is considerable uncertainty surrounding the origins and timing of colonization in a number of key mammals in the British Isles, with colonization patterns possibly being dictated by adaptive processes in certain genetic lineages within species. This project will utilise genomics to study phylogeographic, demographic and adaptive processes in several large and small mammals in the British Isles across thousands of single nucleotide polymorphisms. The candidate will gain expertise in the very latest genomic and bioinformatic techniques and analyses. This project will provide fascinating insights into the complex history, and subsequent evolution, of mammals on the western fringe of Europe.
