Dr I Podmore  Applications accepted all year round  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

VOCs such as alcohols, esters, ketones and alkanes have previously been identified as potential cancer biomarkers both in vitro and in vivo. This project will involve the development of assays, using techniques such as Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) and Thermal Desorption (TD) followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), to detect and measure VOCs in a range of selected cancer cell lines. The study is aimed at developing improved assays for the measurement of volatile cancer biomarkers for in vivo.

Applicants are expected to hold (or about to obtain) a minimum upper second class degree in a cognate subject or a lower degree and a Master’s degree in a cognate subject.
