About the Project

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse/Occupational Therapist, committed to patient focused and evidence based care. You will work as a Registered Nurse or Occupational Therapist in the Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust whilst undertaking a PhD in with the University of Southampton on the “Management of long term conditions for older persons in rural community settings: the influence and impact of social networks

This exciting opportunity will enable you to combine clinical practice with a research role. You will work with your nominated clinical mentor and academic supervisors to develop your clinical academic role in both practice and university settings. You will join a thriving and expanding group of Clinical Doctoral Research Fellows using purpose built Clinical Academic Facilities.

This doctoral project will be based in Dorset. It links with the Dorset County Hospital’s Acute Hospital at Home scheme and will be focused on the investigation of the impact of ongoing intervention for activating and sustaining self-management behaviours for older people living in rural community settings. It has been recognised that in rural Dorset (served by Dorset County Hospital’s Acute Hospital at Home provision) that a key component of individual’s ability to effectively engage with and sustain self-management behaviours is influenced by people’s connection with social networks and community resources. As a rural area this is particularly relevant due to the lower density populations and possible geographic issues influencing ability to connect with community resources to support ongoing self-management.

This is not a condition specific project, but will focus on care of the elderly. The successful applicant would be able to design the focus of this investigation with the supervisory team. The approaches are most likely to be mixed methods but again agreed following development of the project design with the supervisory team. This project is for a Registered Nurse or Occupational Therapist.
