About the Project

As both recent research and government statements have indicated, young people from disadvantaged or minority backgrounds are still significantly less likely to go to university, and particularly to one of the UK’s top universities. This is of great concern to the University of Exeter, and we are widely engaged, regionally and nationally in a range of activities designed to encourage higher aspirations to university and greater access to university. This studentship is intended to provide the university with robust evidence of the issues surrounding widening participation, and particularly the impact of the intervention activities we have undertaken on students’ entering university.

Funding Notes

Candidates are expected to have a relevant degree at undergraduate level with a minimum of a 2:1.

This studentship is open to any applicant with a background in Social Sciences, particularly Education. We particularly welcome applications from current teachers who are keen to develop their own capacity to research, and would enjoy contributing to the development of the University’s Widening Participation agenda. However, we would also welcome applications from Social Sciences graduates keen to develop an academic career, and committed to the principles of widening participation.

Ideally, applicants need to be available to begin this studentship in January 2017.
