Potential use of Secondary Aggregates (from chemical treatment of waste streams) in Geotechnical Engineering

Secondary aggregates (created via carbonation of industrial waste streams, producing aggregates with a negative ‘carbon footprint’) have the potential to act as a sustainable alternative to concrete or primary aggregates (won from quarries) in many geotechnical engineering applications. The proposed study would utilise an experimental investigation to determine the geotechnical properties of secondary aggregates and determine where the application of these materials in of geotechnical engineering applications would be feasible. The project would be undertaken in associated with the University of Greenwich and Carbon8.
