Project Description

- The candidate will develop new mathematical models for tackling healthcare operations management problems on the strategic, tactical and operational decision level.
- The candidate will develop algorithms to obtain high quality solutions.
- The candidate will develop simulation models to address uncertainty in healthcare.
- A graphical user interface will be developed in close collaboration with NHS practitioners (physicians, nurses and managers) to support decision making.
- A usability and acceptability study will be undertaken to feed back into the platform and to maximize impact.
- The candidate is expected to work closely together with the local health boards in order to develop and implement software requirements specifications.

The output of the work will have a direct and immediate impact on the potential management of the local health boards which are linked with Cardiff University.

UK Research Council eligibility conditions apply.

Full awards (fees plus maintenance stipend) are open to UK Nationals and EU students who can satisfy UK residency requirements. To be eligible for the full award, EU Nationals must have been in the UK for at least 3 years prior to the start of the course for which they are seeking funding, including for the purposes of full-time education.
