Prof C Robson  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

Start date to be agreed. The funding covers a three year PhD.

Overview:
This project is part of the Translational Research Network for Prostate Cancer (TransPot), a pan-European academic/private/clinical sector research training network focussed on Translational Cancer Research, Cancer Cell Biology and Applied Systems Biology/Systems Medicine. TransPot will integrate the leading research scientists and laboratories in Europe with an interest in these research fields to train 11 early stage research Fellows. We will incorporate the latest multi-disciplinary research technologies to understand lethal prostate cancer.

The Fellow will be integrated within the Prostate Cancer Research Group in the Northern Institute for Cancer Research. The specific project will investigate how components of the androgen receptor signalling pathway can be targeted for therapeutic intervention. In vitro siRNA screening will be performed using representative prostate cancer cell line models and novel high content assays will be developed with our collaborators in order to characterise co-regulatory proteins of the androgen receptor. Expression of key androgen receptor co-regulators will be examined in clinical prostate cancer.

Career development will benefit from excellent training in scientific and transferable skills through the internships and training courses organised within the network with academic and industrial partners in Germany, Finland, Greece, Netherlands and UK. Students from all TransPot laboratories will meet at summer schools and workshops as part of their training.
