Dr C Salzmann  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

The Salzmann group at UCL Chemistry has recently been awarded a two-million Euro research grant by the European Research Council. As part of the CARBONICE project, we now advertise a fully funded PhD studentship. Using new and unique experimental approaches, the aim of the CARBONICE project is to investigate the interface and interplay between water and carbon in detail. This includes studies into the hydration of hydrophobic species, the formation of clathrate hydrates, the nucleation and crystallization of ice at the carbon interface, and water-desorption processes relevant for atmospheric and cometary environments.
Formal applications require the completion of the online application form using the link provided below. In addition, please email a motivation letter, a degree transcript, contact details of two referees and an up-to-date CV directly to Dr Salzmann ([Email Address Removed]) who can also be approached for informal inquiries. Full details of the research activities of the Salzmann group at UCL can be found at: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~uccacgs/

Funding Notes

Only UK/EU students are eligible for this studentship. The candidates should have, or expect to gain, a good honours degree (first or upper second) chemistry, or a related subject, and an enquiring and rigorous approach to research. Good team-working, observational and communication skills are also essential. The start date for the PhD is the 25th September 2017. The deadline for applications is the 1st of March 2017, but the position will be filled as soon as an appropriate candidate is found.
Suitable candidates will be required to complete an electronic application form at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/graduate/apply.
