Prof J Lovegrove, Dr R Fallaize, Dr M Weech  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

"This exciting PhD involves designing and validating a novel online dietary assessment tool for use in older adults. Accurate determination of dietary intake is essential for nutritional science and the rise in commercial nutrition apps highlights the need for reliable, validated tools.
The student will join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of nutrition scientists and biomedical engineers who have developed a unique online app (eNutri) which analyses a user’s dietary intake and delivers automated personalised nutrition advice.
This project involves refining the eNutri app for use by older adults in collaboration with a Software Developer. The project includes assessment of the requirements of older adults, involve human studies to validate the app and opportunities to use the eNutri app in human personalised nutrition studies. We aim to develop this into a tool that could be used more widely by nutrition professionals/researchers. The student will also combine and analyse dietary data generated alongside similar dietary data from other countries as part of the wider €10 million EU consortium Horizon 2020 project: Food Nutrition Security Cloud (H2020 FNS-Cloud).
Training will be provided in qualitative methodologies, clinical trials, ethical approval, data analysis and Good Clinical Practice with opportunities to visit collaborators within the EU.
We welcome applications from motivated students with excellent communication skills, a background in nutrition/biological sciences, and interests in developing skills in data analysis.
