About the Project

A novel analytical instrument constructed at UCL, has demonstrated the capability for real-time optical deconvolution of multiple protein species. This enables tracking of biological events in solution, deconvolution of overlapping peaks in chromatography, monitoring of complex protein aggregation kinetics.

This PhD/EngD project will engineer, expand the capability and refine the technique through bespoke optimisation of optical and electronic hardware, and also the data analysis. Collaboration with Pall will bring expertise in retrofitting the technique into existing analytical and chromatography systems. The project would suit a candidate with a good first degree in Electronic engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Physics, Medical Physics, Biophysics, or other degree with a strong analytical component.

UCL is one of the top UK research universities. The four-year PhD/EngD project is funded by the EPSRC CDT in BioProcess Leadership at UCL.
