Prof I P Parkin  No more applications being accepted  Competition Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

The UCL Centre for Doctoral Training in Molecular Modelling and Materials Science is offering a fully funded studentship to a highly motivated candidate to start in September 2017. The project will be in collaboration with INBev (http://www.ab-inbev.co.uk) and NSG (http://www.nsg.com). The student will carry out his/her doctoral research at UCL and also have the opportunity for work placements at NSG and InBev, the project may involve scale –up trials which are currently underway in South Africa.

The project will primarily focus on the development of novel CVD coating methods on glass- on particular the development of self-cleaning coatings and studying the interaction of polymer coatings with barrier layers. The student will get hands on training in CVD, analysis and functional testing. There will be opportunity to travel and present work at conferences and also to work in industrial labs. One of the exciting parts of the project is seeing the chemistry developed in the lab translated into industry, possibly influencing commercial pathways.

The PhD candidate will join an exciting team in a dynamic research environment at UCL and also at UCL/INBev.

Interested candidates should initially contact Professor Ivan Parkin ([Email Address Removed]) or Dr Zhimei Du ([Email Address Removed]) Informal inquiries are encouraged.

Applications will be considered until 30 June 2017 or as soon as a suitable candidate has been identified.

Funding Notes

You should have, or be expecting to achieve, a first or upper second class Honours degree or equivalent in chemistry.

Due to funding restrictions, this studentship is only open to applicants from the UK and EU, who have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years preceding their start on the programme or have indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
