About the Project

The inorganic materials chemistry group, led by Prof Rosseinsky at the University of Liverpool (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/chemistry/research/rosseinsky-group/about/), focusses its research on the discovery of new solid inorganic compounds using an integrated experimental and computational approach.1-5 We have an exciting opportunity for a studentship to pursue an experimental project as part of the Leverhulme Centre for Functional Materials Design at the University of Liverpool. The project can be tailored to suit the skills and interests of the student within the confines of the overall goals of the group:

Experimental discovery and characterisation of novel functional materials:

Experimental discovery and characterisation of novel functional materials, as guided by the computational design activity within the Leverhulme Centre. The envisaged programme of material discovery requires a combination of synthetic solid state chemistry, advanced structural analysis (crystallography) and measurement of physical properties, with the opportunity to focus on one or more of these aspects during the project. The successful applicant will be expected to work closely with other research groups within the Centre. Example property areas include superconductivity and ion transport.

The studentship will be supervised by Matthew J Rosseinsky and an appropriate discipline co-supervisor

Qualifications required: A 2:1 or higher degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science: applicants with a strong interest in physical science but with Mathematics or Computer Science discipline backgrounds are eligible for the second project area. Please apply by completing the online postgraduate research application form at http://www.liv.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/applying/online.htm. Applications should be made as soon as possible and no later than 31st May. Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Troy Manning, Research Coordinator in Prof Rosseinsky’s group ([Email Address Removed]).
