Project Detail:

This PhD project aims to examine how perceptions of safety and the incidence of community social disorder affects household travel as well as other physical activity with consequences for subjective well-being, health and social capital. The proposed project will integrate suitable secondary data sources on individual travel behaviour and physical activity with relevant crime data and statistics and engage in appropriate analysis such as multi-level discrete choice modelling.

As well as Economics graduates, this project would appeal to somebody with a strong quantitative background and interests in transport, management, geography, criminology and physical activity. Applicants should have experience or the capability of manipulating large-scale data and analysing it through quantitative research methods with econometric and statistical software.

Entry requirements:

Masters degree (with average programme mark of no less than 65%) or equivalent from a related field such as economics, transport, management, geography, criminology, physical activity and health. English Language requirement of IELTS band 7.0 or above with not less than 7.0 in each component.

Funding information:

The studentship is for three years and provides a tax free stipend of £14,553 per annum for the duration plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate. International (non-EU) students may apply however the total value of the studentship will be used towards the cost of the International tuition fee in the first instance.
