About the Project

PhD position offered within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) “Tribbles Research and Innovation Network” (TRAIN), a multidisciplinary research training program to uncover critical links between cellular control of immuno-metabolism and prostate cancer progression.

This project will give an opportunity to undertake research training at the interface of several disciplines and sectors within a consortium composed of 10 industrial and academic institutions from the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Portugal and Hungary.

The PhD position will be based at the beneficiary Seqomics Biotechnology Ltd (Szeged, Hungary) under the supervision of Istvan Nagy. The host institution is a biotech R&D organization offering genomic counseling, genomics services and bioinformatics analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data.

The title of the PhD project is “Trancriptome & Pathway Analyses of Trib1 – and 3- Mouse Models of Immuno-Metabolic Disease” and aims to assess the transcriptomic consequences of loss of Treg-TRIB/Foxp3 interaction on VAT adipocytes, using next generation sequencing. This is one of 15 PhD projects being undertaken across the network, the overall objective of which is to uncover cell-specific aspects of pathways that govern the physiological functioning of adipocytes, immune cells and prostate epithelial cells. The projects focus on tribbles (TRIB) proteins, a recently described family of pseudokinases that have a key role in controlling immunity, energy homeostasis and cancer development, and which here will serve as prototypical examples for integrative immune-metabolomic cancer research. This is an excellent opportunity to join a strong international scientific network that provides the opportunity to qualify for a PhD as well as benefitting from the enhanced parallel training opportunities of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN programme and networking with other PhD students in the cohort.

Being part of an ITN network, in addition to the time spent at the host laboratory, the PhD student will participate in at least one international/trans-sectorial exchange of 4-6 months in another partner’s laboratory as well as attending a number of 4-6 day training events that will be hosted and delivered by the partner institutions. A generous salary and mobility allowance will be granted to each successful applicant for the duration of their PhD (maximum 36 months).

Funding Notes

This position is funded under the Marie Sklodowska Curie ITN Programme and the successful applicant will benefit from the salary and allowances of an Early Stage Researcher under that scheme for a period of 36 months. The eligibility requirements are as follows:
Must hold a Masters degree
Must not have been awarded a PhD
Must not have carried out more than 4 years of research post first degree
Must not have worked or lived in Hungary for more than 12 months in the previous 3 years
