About the Project
Off Site Manufacturing (OSM) continues to make a significant contribution to Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC). This inertia has been supported by a number of innovative solutions, including: Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), new construction systems and typologies, advanced materials and biomimicry, adaptive business models, and new approaches of applying generative design. This PhD will 1) evaluate technical feasibility (processes, materials, technologies and systems) and integration requirements needed to support new business models; 2) develop evidence-based scenarios to support agile solutions (for processes, materials, technologies and systems), with specific emphasis on organisational systems, delivery strategies, and sustainable transformation strategies; and 3) develop a new OSM capability-driven resilience model based on sustainable transformation methodologies for organisational systems and delivery strategies.
This PhD offers candidates a unique opportunity to work with academia and industry to develop new complementary strategies to support AEC solutions in OSM. The real challenge here is to generate defendable scenario-driven solutions which support the resilience model to ensure this is ‘fit-for-purpose’, and has exclusive justifiable value proposition streams for business exploitation. Given this, applicants with experience in OSM, DfMA, process methodologies or transformation modelling will be a distinct advantage.
