Overview:

The research investigates autonomous vehicle and their interaction C-ITS Cooperative ITS.

The connectivity offered by ITS platforms facilitating the interaction between infrastructure, vehicles and travellers is a key component of future smart transport and will among other things, enable a whole range of use cases which connect infrastructure intelligence and traffic management for vehicles with different levels of vehicle automation (which could range from setting an optimum speed for the vehicle, providing priority at lights through to reducing vehicle emissions and supporting older drivers to continue driving safer for longer through various in-vehicle support systems).

The research could be approached from many angles, including the technology, the impact such technologies could have on future traffic management and operations, user acceptance, business cases or around the evolution of C-ITS and the automation of vehicles towards full driverless vehicles.

Eligibility Criteria:

You must have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent, in Civil Engineering, other Engineering, Computer Science or ITS/business related subject. As this is an industrial funded Case award some consideration of experience in the topic area will be considered in lieu.

The award is available to UK/EU applicants only. Depending on how you meet the EPSRC’s eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to a full or a partial award.

Funding Notes

UK: 100% of tuition fees paid and annual living expenses of £14,057 pa. EPSRC full award, plus an Industrial Case top up from Siemens making a total allowance of £20,000 pa.

EU: students will receive a tuition fees only award.
