About the Project

Research into Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) is currently seen as one of high national importance. A key component, and technological critical path to their ultimate deployment, is the provision of robust navigation systems. Robustness, from the perspective of a CAV in this project is seen as being able to withstand both physical and cyber challenges. Thus, this project is holistic in that the RF signal propagation characteristics, which are dependent on weather, location, and other deployment scenario constraints, will be considered alongside the associated security aspects of the system.

WMGs Intelligent Vehicles Group, in partnership with the UK based R&D team of Spirent Communications are offering a rare opportunity to someone with a passion for CAV technologies to be part next generation technology development with a fully funded 3.5 year PhD Scholarship.

We are actively seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team with the following:

- An undergraduate (BEng, MEng) and/or postgraduate Master’s qualification (MSc) in a science and technology field. e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, etc.
- An understanding and/or experience in either, or a combination of: embedded systems, sensor technologies, communications systems, resilient systems, electronic systems, algorithm design and/or systems engineering. This list is neither exhaustive, nor required, but we would hope the candidate could provide a breakdown of their degree by module and/or interests to provide us with a general picture of their knowledge and experience.
- Is keen to work alongside researchers and engineers from within Spirent both at the WMG, and at their UK offices.
- A passion and enthusiasm to challenge the state of the art in a rapidly changing technology space!

Entry requirements
Qualifications: A 1st or 2:1 undergraduate (BEng, MEng) and/or postgraduate Master’s qualification (MSc) in a science and technology field. e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, etc.

Funding Notes

Due to funding regulations, the applicant should be eligible as a Home/EU student. A stipend of £14,296 will be paid per annum for 3.5 years.
