Project Description

A PhD position is available in the group of Prof. Christian Heinis at the EPFL in Lausanne ( The primary focus of the research group is the development of peptide macrocycle therapeutics using phage display and other combinatorial methods.

The goal of the PhD project is to develop peptide macrocycles to challenging protein targets to which no small molecule ligands could be generated to date. The PhD student will develop strategies to synthesize and screen large combinatorial libraries of macrocycles. The student will apply the methods to generate ligands to important therapeutic targets such as TNFa, IL-17 and PD-1. The techniques used in the project include chemical reaction development, automated peptide synthesis, high-throughput screening, characterization of ligands and biological evaluation.

Applicants need to be highly motivated and able to lead a project independently. They should have an education in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or a related subject. Entrance date: July 2017 - June 2018
