About the Project

The Institute of Immunology, Department of Pathobiology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna conducts basic and applied research on the immune system of farm and companion animals. The main focus is on the immune system of swine, in particular on cells of the adaptive immune system and their response towards various pathogens.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to work on a project focusing on the development of novel monoclonal antibodies with the aim to study the induction of long-term immunity via the generation of memory T and B cells after vaccination of pigs. The project is incorporated into a Christian Doppler laboratory located at the Institute of Immunology. Christian Doppler Laboratories perform application-oriented basic research on a high level based on a joint financing by the public purse and an industry partner. The student will work with various molecular, cell biological and immunological methods like PCR, cell culture, and flow cytometry

Necessary knowledge and qualifications
 Graduation at a Master´s level (or equivalent) in veterinary medicine or biosciences
 Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English (B2-level)
 Sound knowledge in basic immunology
Additional skills and abilities
 Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
 Strong interest in biomedical research
 Dedication to laboratory work
 First practical experience in laboratory work will be favorable
 Basic knowledge in flow cytometry and methods of molecular biology are an asset

Funding Notes

The minimum salary for university staff is regulated by the collective contract and at the level given above amounts to EUR 2.048,30 gross per month (14 times/year). The minimum salary may be increased when previous employment and other salary components are taken into account.
