About the Project

A PhD scholarship is available in the group of Associate Prof Sattlegger, for an exciting project in the interface of basic and biomedical research, funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand. You will conduct basic biomedical research aimed to decipher the function of a particular cellular pathway, and explore this as a potential drug target for its suitability in the fight against cancer.

This project provides a unique opportunity for you to develop interdisciplinary skills from various disciplines, such as molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, protein biochemistry (protein-protein interactions, kinase assay, protein structure models). We already have promising preliminary data which will allow a fast start into this PhD project. PhD students graduation from the Sattlegger lab have secured prestigious positions ranging from academia to industry. Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, with a population of 2 million, and is one of the world's most multicultural cities. The Massey University Auckland campus, where this position will be based, is located on the North Shore, close to a number of beaches, with opportunities for outdoor recreation in easy reach.
A PhD scholarship is available covering living expenses as well as fees.
The selection criteria are as follows:
• Excellent academic record
• Evidence of ability to conduct research
• Relevant Masters or First Class Honours Degree, with at least an A- (75%)
• Background/knowledge/experience relevant to the project area
• Genuine interest in science and research
• Ability and willingness to self-manage
• Ability and willingness to work in a team environment
• Excellent organisational skills
• Excellent communication skills
• 1Must commence with PhD in 2017 if interested in Scholarship
