Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN ESR in Computational Analysis of Cardiac Images using Machine Learning

One full-time fellowship position is available for a period of three years from February 2018, tenable at Oxford University. The position will be based at the Biomedical Image Analysis Group, Institute of Biomedical Engineering (Department of Engineering Science) in Oxford. The successful candidate will be registered for PhD training while employed by the University on a Marie Curie Initial Training Network to conduct research in computational medical image analysis. The start date for these positions is 1st February 2018.
The candidate will work to develop new image analysis techniques for accurate cardiac characterisation and construction of patient-specific models. This will be done using machine learning techniques, which learn common properties from available image databases and incorporate information from individual patients. This work is part of a bigger project, PIC, which will train young researchers (biomedical engineers) in key areas of medical technology through a coordinated plan of individual research projects addressing specific topics and multi-disciplinary work between clinicians and biomedical engineers. Details of Research/Funding
The EC funding for this position is between €62,362 to €67,200 p.a [approx. £47,970 - £51,692] (depending on employer deductions, personal circumstances and the exchange rate to be notified by the EC), which includes an annual living allowance and a mobility allowance.
Candidate Requirements
Under the terms of the EC funding, to be eligible for the post you must not have been resident in the UK for more than 12 months in the past three years. Additionally, you must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of your research career and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when you obtained the degree which would formally entitle you to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided. Candidates will have a good Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics or a related field and an excellent record of academic and/or professional achievement. Experience with programming languages, and evidence of programming skills and the ability to manage own research and administrative activities is essential. Excellent communication skills, experience of following and adapting protocols and selecting appropriate experimental methodologies is also required.
