Funded PhD Studentship in Psychological Sex Differences across Cultures.

The Centre for Culture and Evolution at Brunel University London is offering a fully funded PhD studentship for the investigation of psychological sex differences across cultures. This research position will involve working with cross-cultural and evolutionary psychological research methods to investigate how men and women differ in their psychological attitudes and behaviours, and why these differences sometimes attenuate and sometimes accentuate across differing cultural forms.


Based in the College of Health and Life Sciences, and funded by Brunel University London; the studentship offers an annual London rate stipend of £16,777 plus Home/EU tuition fees, for a maximum of 36 months. Preferred start date is 1st October 2018.

Overview
The PhD studentship in Psychological Sex Differences across Cultures will involve using cross-cultural and evolutionary research methods to investigate the ways men and women psychologically differ, and differ to varying degrees, across cultures. The studentship will involve using statistical tools such as multigroup confirmatory factor analysis to rigorously evaluate how men and women psychologically differ across cultures, and multilevel modelling to identify the most potent individual-level and culture-level predictors of psychological sex differences. A particular focus will be investigating the links among sociopolitical gender inequality, socioecological stress, and sex differences in sexual attitudes and behaviours.

Eligibility
Candidates should have an undergraduate degree (first or upper second class) or equivalent qualification in Psychology, Biological Anthropology or a related Life or Social Science discipline. A Masters qualification in a relevant area would be desirable. Experience in conducting quantitative psychological/behavioural research and multivariate data analysis is essential. Applicants who have not been awarded a degree by a University in the UK will be expected to demonstrate English language skills to IELTS 7.0 (minimum 6.0 in any section).
