About the Project

The Kidney Lifestyle research team run a broad translational research programme building the evidence base for lifestyle management in chronic kidney disease and developing and testing lifestyle interventions for implementation in primary and secondary care. A number of PhD opportunities exist in topics such as : understanding the metabolic and inflammatory mechanisms of muscle dysfunction and novel approaches to modification; immune function in kidney transplant recipients; efficacy and effectiveness trials of lifestyle interventions; epidemiological and observational studies of the impact of lifestyle factors on patient outcome; mixed methods evaluation of the patient experience; and lifestyle behaviour change.

We are a multidisciplinary team with a wide range of expertise and skills, excellent clinical and laboratory research facilities, and access to a large patient cohort. We also benefit from our close association with the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, the Diabetes Research Centre, the Leicester Precision Medicine Institute, the NIHR EM CLAHRC, the NIHR National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine, and collaborators at Loughborough University School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.
