Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)
About the Project
This project is part of an established programme of research in the University of South Wales Addictions Research Group, and builds on earlier findings. The overall aim of the project is to reduce levels of gambling related harm and addiction through the early identification and help for individuals who are at risk.
The anticipated objectives of this research are to develop and evaluate an appropriate screening and brief intervention tool for problem gambling through a series of 4 studies:
• A systematic evaluation of research evidence on screening and intervention effectiveness
• An empirical investigation of the impact and influence of new technologies on gambling harm, including the changing demographics being targeted, and accessing gambling.
• Stakeholder consultation into the screening tool and intervention content and format
• The evaluation of the screening tool and brief intervention with service providers and users in a real-world setting
The project has potential significance for policy makers, service providers and individuals who are experiencing gambling related harm
