Competition Funded PhD Project (UK Students Only)
About the Project
You will contribute to ongoing sensor network research working with Steven Johnston, Philip Basford, and Simon Cox at the University of Southampton.
You will be researching how sensor network and smart city technologies can be applied to small farm enterprises. The existing aggrotech industry is focused on large scale farming this project will enable the same advantages to be used at a smaller scale. This work will be complemented by other researchers looking at smart city technology how this existing research can be mapped into the aggrotech world another area of research that you will be involved in.
This is a technical PhD which will span embedded systems, programming, various operating systems and is designed to operate at a national or international scale. You will need to be versatile, enthusiastic and capable of world class research. An ability to write and present technical and research papers is a must as the work will be disseminated through world leading journals and conferences.
You will be joining an established research team within the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton and there will be interaction with project partners, other PhD Students and Industrial links. There will be a small amount of travel to collaboration partners, conferences and supporting institutions.
