Project description
The Clinical Doctoral Fellowship (CDF) post is an integrated clinical-research post that combines clinical practice as an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) nurse specialist with research training and registration for a PhD in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York (DoHS, UoY). The PhD will focus on research investigations in the field of gastroenterology which are also pertinent to nursing and that meets the University’s requirements for a PhD.

This Clinical Doctoral Fellowship (CDF) will be part of a cutting edge and ground-breaking collaboration between the universities and NHS trusts in the Yorkshire and Humber region called CARDINAL (Clinical Doctoral Nurses and Allied Health Professionals) aimed at research capacity building. CARDINAL is a collaborative doctoral research network for nurses, midwives and AHPs comprises of Yorkshire NHS Trusts and Universities that coordinated by the NIHR CLAHRC, and each Clinical Doctoral Fellow will join a cohort of other practitioners undertaking a fellowship throughout the region.

In addition to Departmental, Faculty and University research training opportunities, CARDINAL will create an additional vibrant learning and support environment for the group of CDFs and their clinical and academic supervisors. It will provide additional mentorship for the CDF and an evidence-based training programme shaped around the fellows’ needs to support the development of a clinical research career. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for practitioners with an ambition to influence patient care through applied research practice.
