DTC PHYS 22 - Generalised Dualities in String Theory - investigating the rich mathematical and physics insights that lie at the intersection of String Theory, Duality, Holography and Integrability

This project will investigate the rich mathematical and physics insights that lie at the intersection of String Theory, Duality, Holography and Integrability. This project will focus on integrable two-dimensional world sheet theories that describe strings propagating in spacetimes holographically dual to Quantum Field theories. The particular aim of this project is to develop a better understanding of the quantum aspects of a class of novel integrable two-dimensional QFTs known as η and λ deformations and the Poisson-Lie duality that relates them (at least classically) and to establish better their role within the context of doubled field theory.

Entry requirements

Candidates must have a minimum of an upper second class honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, or an appropriate Master’s degree (with Merit). Informal enquiries are welcome by emailing the project supervisor.

For candidates whose first language is not English, we require IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each component) or equivalent. Please visit our website for a list of acceptable English language tests. We prefer candidates to have already met the English Language requirements at the point of application, although this is not a requirement.
