About the Project

Microwave systems are becoming more mainstream with wearable applications needing to work at higher frequencies. There is a requirement for circuits and devices that can perform at these frequencies in a cost-effective manner. Investigating this problem will mean looking at new production techniques and new interconnection methods based around textiles, meta-materials and similar concepts.
Major areas requiring research are textile/flexible connectors, size reduction of flexible/textile circuit components and isolation of components form the human body to ensure human safety s well as correct circuit operation.

A successful applicant will have the ability to grasp the electromagnetic implications of novel technologies at microwave frequencies as well as a firm understanding of the application areas unfolding as technology advances. (S)he will be joining a team of established researchers supervising a number of PhD students in the microwaves, antennas and wearable systems area.

Entry requirements
Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in Electronics or a closely related subject.

A relevant Master’s degree and/or experience in one or more of the following will be an advantage: Electronics or wireless communications engineering with an emphasis on propagation and microwave engineering.
