Dr Evan Elliott  Applications accepted all year round  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

We are seeking an enthusiastic student for a novel project on the epigenetic basis of behavior. The goal of the project, under the direct supervision of Dr. Evan Elliott, includes to uncover the role of three dimensional chromatin organization factors in the functioning of the brain both in adulthood and development, and involves the use of conditional transgenic knockout mice to induce both development and adulthood specific gene knockout in specific brain cells. Molecular characterization of brain cells include, but are not limited to, RNA-seq, Chip-seq, immunohistochemistry, histology, and biochemical techniques. Behavioral characterization will be performed to uncover the role of specific chromatin organization factors on cognitive behaviors. The student will receive a full fellowship for the four year duration of the PhD studies. The project takes place in the new Faculty of Medicine at Bar Ilan University, with new state-of-the-art genomic facilities, molecular departmental center, and animal facilities. The laboratory includes both a molecular lab and the mouse behavioral lab, and offers a very friendly and enjoyable working environment.

The candidate should have a high working level of English and will preferably have some experience either in neuroscience or in epigenetic research (not necessary to have both). The candidate must have a Masters degree. The candidate should be highly motivated with a strong desire to learn many new techniques and to interact closely with other lab members as a team player.
