About the Project

Applications are invited for a full-time self- funded PhD (via MPhil) in the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. The expected duration of the PhD is 3 years (subject to satisfactory progress)

Project Description

This full-time PhD position for self-funded students is to be developed at the Bambini-Junior’s lab (vbjlab.com) in Preston UK. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder of high prevalence that affects several aspects of individuals’ life. The aetiology of ASD is unknown, however it clearly has a strong genetic component involved in its triggering and developing. The aim of this project is to evaluate the behavioural alterations of several transgenic lineage of rodents. This challenging project will involve the behavioural analysis of transgenic models of neurotransmitter receptors. The supervisors have extensive experience in the field1,2 and publications can be provided upon request.

This is an opportunity to work in an emerging department. State-of-the art equipment is available to tackle some of the most fascinating questions in neuroscience.

Qualifications and background
Applicants should have a strong interest in physiology and preclinical models and have (or expect to hold by the start date) a UK Bachelor degree at upper second or first class honours level (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline. UK ,EU and International applicants are welcome.
