About the Project

Supervisors
Prof Kim Wright , University of Exeter
Dr Manja Koenders, Leiden University, Netherlands

Location: University of Exeter, Streatham Campus, Exeter

Project description:
Across the spectrum of people who experience Bipolar Disorder, some find that their mood switches rapidly. This rapid switching is understudied: the proportion of people it affects, its usual course and its cognitive and behavioural correlates are not known, nor is its importance in predicting treatment response.

The purpose of this research is to better understand the pattern and key psychological characteristics of rapid bipolar mood switching, and its implications for a patient’s benefit from existing treatments.

Methods are likely to include prospective observational studies using questionnaires and behavioural tasks, systematic reviewing and secondary analysis of existing data sets, and qualitative interviewing and analysis.
This research would suit someone with an interest in clinical psychology, psychological therapies or mental health research.
