Mathematical modelling and statistical analysis of adaptive immune responses

We are looking for an ambitious EU Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher to work as a contract employee and to contribute to a vibrant research community at the university. The successful candidate will enroll in the university’s Ph.D. programme under the supervision of Prof. Ken Duffy following which, as a Ph.D. student, the successful applicant will be subject to the University's regulations applicable to students for the duration of his/her studies. The candidate is expected to participate in international training events under the EU Initial Training Network ‘Quantitative T cell Immunology and Immunotherapy (QuanTII)’ and engage in research visits to collaborators in the European Union and Australia.

Principle Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

* Have a first class or higher second class degree (or equivalent) in a numerate discipline such as mathematics / statistics / computer science / engineering;

* Have an interest in working on an interdisciplinary project in quantitative biology;

* Have not yet been awarded the doctorate degree and be in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of their research career;

* Have demonstrated appropriate technical expertise and enthusiasm.

The duties of the post will include:

* To enrol in Maynooth University’s structured graduate programme under the supervision of Prof. Ken Duffy;

* Undertake research and training as a member of the EU FP7 QuanTII initial training network;

* Perform research in collaboration with members of the network, including participating in research visits to other member institutions.

Eligibility criteria

The position is funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 Programme. Candidates must be eligible to be appointed as an Early Stage Researcher in Ireland. You will have, at the time of recruitment, less than four years full-time equivalent research experience and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. Full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him or her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited or seconded, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged.

Additionally, you should, at the time of recruitment, not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Ireland for more than twelve months in the three years immediately prior to the date of recruitment). There are no nationality restrictions but the post only covers home/EU PhD tuition fees, if you are not eligible for home/EU fees and wish to undertake a PhD you must fund the difference between overseas and home/EU fees.
