About the Project

We are pleased to welcome applications for this fully funded 3 year PhD studentship.

Our research training programme aims to develop a cohort of scientists equipped both intellectually and technically to conduct the highest quality cancer research.

Our research degrees are supplemented by a comprehensive support programme, providing training in a wide range of biomedical laboratory methods and other vital transferable skills.

Aims of the project:
In this project, we will take our two recent patentable findings and the cutting-edge research on cancer immunotherapy together, to develop a novel immunotherapeutic agent for pancreatic cancer treatment through achieving the following objectives:
1.Construction of a novel Vaccinia virus vector expressing soluble m/h-PD1;
2.Validation of the new virus (and backbone virus) in vitro for its cytotoxicity, replication and expression of soluble PD1 in different cancer cells, as well as the activity of soluble PD1 released from cancer cells in blocking PD-L1.
3. Evaluation of antitumor efficacy, safety and the functional mechanisms of the new vectors in vivo.

Funding Notes

The studentship includes the following funding for 3 years:

A tax free annual stipend of £18,000
Tuition Fees at the Home/EU rate
