EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines at the University of Nottingham (UoN) and University College London (UCL) is offering one fully-funded studentship in Nottingham and one fully-funded studentship at UCL for a start in September 2018

The Centre of Doctoral Training in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicine, located at the University of Nottingham (UoN) and University College London (UCL), Schools of Pharmacy, together with their industrial partners – Alliance Boots, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Quotient Sciences, Croda and Evonik – and EPSRC is offering one studentship at the University of Nottingham and one at UCL, commencing in September 2018.

What does our Centre offer?

The Centre offers a highly multi-disciplinary environment at the interfaces between pharmaceutical, chemical, life sciences, engineering and clinical research. The four-year doctoral programme involves a bespoke scientific and soft-skills training programme, and 12-week training projects at academic and industry sites in the first year of study before students commence their PhD research. Students are fully involved, with academic and industry partners, in the design of their PhD projects.

Throughout the 4-year programme, in addition to academic training in various disciplines of advanced healthcare therapeutics, our students are supported to actively participate in learning and training, innovation and entrepreneurship. They benefit from the Centre’s bespoke training in transferable skills development, conference and colloquia events, active learning sessions, team working and problem solving sessions, outreach activities, and close industry involvement. Our integrated university - industry relationship allows all our students unrivalled access to the healthcare, chemical, pharmaceutical and clinical research expertise of our academics and our industrial partners.

Deadline

All incoming CVs will be continually evaluated until the position is filled. The final deadline by which we will accept applications is Friday 7th September but recruitment may end sooner if the position is filled.

Interview

Interviews will be held at Nottingham or UCL or via Skype by Thursday 13th September.

Who should apply?

Applicants should be interested in undertaking a highly multidisciplinary 4-year research training programme. Candidates should have, or expect to obtain, a first or upper second class degree, or non-UK equivalent, in pharmacy, chemistry, engineering, physics, biology, mathematics or related sciences. We can only consider applicants with, or expecting, at least an upper second class degree or equivalent, or a relevant master programme. Studentships are open to UK students and EU students only.

Funding

Studentships cover tuition fees and a tax free stipend for the duration of the four-year programme. The stipend rate for the academic year 2017/18 is GBP 15,553 per year. The stipend will rise with inflation for 2018/19. London students will receive London weighting.
