There are two Phases to the PhD programme. Phase 1 is a research training programme which prepares students for completing their PhD in Phase 2. Mathematical training continues beyond the first year, and students become involved in research activity from the outset. Elements of the programme include research study groups, an annual conference, weekly seminars and international engagement through graduate schools and short research visits to international partners.
Anybody with a strong interest in the areas of Mathematics or Statistics related to the fields mentioned above. You should have or expect to obtain a first class degree in Mathematics or a subject with a strong mathematical focus.
Flexibility: MASDOC is very flexible. You do not need to have a specific PhD project setup when you start. During the first year you will have many opportunities to discuss projects with many researchers at the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics.
Being part of a cohort: you will not start your PhD studies on your own but with a group of students with similar interests. You will not only be in contact with the students starting together with you but also with those who started in years before you and those who will be starting after you.
World leading research: together, the Mathematics and Statistics departments at Warwick form one of the largest and most dynamic concentrations of researchers in the mathematical sciences in the UK holding the highest EPSRC grant income of all UK universties. This is highly correlated to research quality. Our research environment is outstanding and we are proud of our informal and friendly atmosphere. Whichever direction your research leads you in, there will be someone suitable who is enthusiastic to supervise you!
